How to Brew 100% Arabica Coffee with a V60 Hand Filter

The V60 hand filter is a cone, a paper filter and hot water. It is quiet, it needs no electricity beyond a kettle or stove, and with 100% arabica ground coffee it makes a cleaner and hotter cup than most coffee machines. Below is the recipe we use, in a form you can repeat anywhere.

What you need

A V60 hand filter and a paper filter that fits it.
100% arabica ground coffee, medium grind.
A kettle or a stove, and the cup you are going to drink from.
A kitchen scale, or a measuring spoon and a coffee mug whose size you know.

The recipe, step by step

Use 10 g of ground coffee for 280 g of water - with us that is one spoon from the coffee tin filled to just under level, and one standard cup. Both amounts can be seen in the photo below. A kitchen scale stands next to it in all of our locations.
Empty the kettle and refill it using the cup you are going to drink from. That way you boil exactly the right amount and the filter never overflows.
Boil the water.
Fold a paper filter along its crimped seams and place it in the V60.
Put the V60 with the filter and the ground coffee on your coffee cup.
Pour the boiled water over the coffee grounds in the V60.
Wait until the water has run through.
Put the V60 in the upper basin of the sink so the rest can drain and the filter dries out before it goes into the organic waste - or the general waste, where organic is not separated.
Enjoy your coffee.

Notes

The coffee spoon provided in our locations, filled struck level, holds 11 g of ground coffee.
As a ratio, 36 g of coffee per 1000 ml of water is what we have found works well.

V60 and 100% arabica coffee in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

In all of our locations in Las Palmas the V60, paper filters and 100% arabica ground coffee stand ready in the kitchen, together with a kettle and a kitchen scale. At U32 and P21 the whole set sits on the right-hand side on top of the extractor hood, next to the bean-to-cup machine; at J48 it is the way coffee is made.
