Getting Around Without a Car

Almost nobody at the coliving rents a car, and it is rarely missed. Between walking, the city buses and a cheap bike subscription, everything you are likely to want is covered.

On foot

All three houses sit within roughly a five-minute walk of Playa de Las Canteras. The seafront promenade is flat, traffic-free and about 3 km from end to end, which makes it the default route for almost everything along the coast - including a run or a walk to the surf.

La Cícer, the surf section at the southern end of the beach, is about half an hour on foot from the northern end. Pleasant once, and a lot if you plan to surf every day - which is where the bike comes in.

By bus

The city bus network is good and cheap. Vegueta, the historic old town, is around 30 minutes away on line 12.

Google Maps shows live bus routes and departure times and works very well on Gran Canaria - it is the simplest way to plan a trip here.

Day trips by bus

You can reach a surprising amount of the island without ever renting a car:

  • Dunes of Maspalomas: 50-60 minutes by bus

  • Caldera de Bandama: 60-70 minutes by bus, a volcanic crater and an easy first hike

Plenty of other spots are just as reachable, and Google Maps is the simplest way to check how long a given trip takes.

By bike

Sítycleta, the city bike sharing, costs €3.34 per month and includes the first 30 minutes of every ride - which covers most trips within the city, including the ride down to La Cícer. There is also one coliving bike and several rental shops. Details in Getting Around by Bike.

Arriving from the airport
